Surrendering Animals to Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue

Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue accepts most every animal. If you have a dog, cat or any other type of animal that needs to be rehomed we will try our best to help out.

Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue is a no kill shelter and the animal will stay in our care until he or she is adopted.

Returned Adoptions

If you are returning the animal within the trail period of your contract please contact us immediately using the contact information provided at the bottom of your contract to discuss your options.

As part of our adoption contract all of the animals that are adopted from Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue must be returned to our organization whether it is three months or five years later (with the exception of euthanasia due to old age, medical conditions or severe aggression). If you find yourself in the position of having to give up the animal you adopted from Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue these are the steps you should take:

  • Please contact us at arrowsheart2012@gmail.com.
  • We will ask that you fill out an owner surrender form (below) that will assist us in the placement and adoption of your pet. It is important that this form is filled out completely and to the best of your knowledge. Accurate information about your pet will help in successfully matching it to the right adopters.
  • We do ask that you return the animal with it's original adoption paperwork and vet work if possible.
  • If the original vet work is out dated we ask that the animal be current on vaccinations and blood work. If this is not possible we suggest an owner surrender donation of $50, though it is not required.
  • We may ask if you are willing to foster the animal until it is adopted or a foster home becomes available.
  • When we are ready to accept the animal into our program we will arrange a time for you to come to an adoption event or meet with one of our volunteers/foster homes.

Owner Surrenders

Owner surrendering your pet is a hard choice to make. In many cases we understand that life happens and while it is a tough decision sadly there may be no other option for you and your family. If you wish to owner surrender your pet there are a few steps you need to take.

  • Contact us at arrowsheart2012@gmail.com and tell us about the pet and reason for surrender.
  • We will ask that you fill out an owner surrender form (below) that will assist us in the placement and adoption of your pet. It is important that this form is filled out completely and to the best of your knowledge. Accurate information about your pet will help in successfully matching it to the right adopters.
  • We ask that the animal be completely vetted and up to date on it's vaccinations.
  • If the animal is not completely vetted we ask for an owner surrender donation to help our rescue pay for the vetting. The donation generally range from $50-$100, depending on the vet work needed.
  • We may ask if you are willing to foster the animal until it is adopted or a foster home becomes available.
  • When we are ready to accept the animal into our program we will arrange a time for you to come to an adoption event or meet with one of our volunteers/foster homes.

Shelters Looking for Openings in our Rescue

Contact us at arrowsheart2012@gmail.com where we can discuss the animal(s) looking for refuge. We would like to know the following information:

  • Background (if known)
  • Personality
  • Species/Breed
  • Size
  • Age
  • Sex
  • Vet work completed (if any)
  • Transportation

Considerations: Please do not take the decision of surrendering of your pet lightly. Rescue life can many times be a traumatic experience for your pets. In some cases the issues you are facing can be worked through. Consider contacting a professional trainer or animal behaviorist. If you are considering surrendering a senior animal, one that has severe medical issues or severe non-trainable aggression issues please take into account that your pet may be better off being euthanized in the arms of the people it loves rather than go through the stressful experience of rescue. Please do not surrender your pet to us because the decision of euthanasia is too hard for your family to make. Once an animal is accepted into Arrow's Heart Animal Rescue, we will not euthanize an animal because it is not adopted in a certain amount of time. If you are unsure about this decision and you would like advice from one of our knowledgeable volunteers you may email us at arrowsheart2012@gmail.com with questions and concerns.
